What is Creator Music?
It’s a new marketplace where creators can licence songs for long-form YouTube videos directly within YouTube. Creator Music is available in YouTube Studio for creators in the USA, but Youtube has plans for rolling it out for other countries/territories starting at the beginning of 2023.
Previously many YouTube Creators did not use music in their video productions either because the licencing process was complex or if they used a track without a license; a claim through Content ID would make their video ineligible for monetisation.
This service opens up music licensing to a whole new target market and is not in competition with the content ID system already in place.
Who is Creator Music aimed at?
Creator Music is aimed at "Creators" on YouTube. These individuals produce content for the platform, where their channel is part of the YouTube partner program and is therefore monetising.
Creators will be able to licence music from YouTube Creator Music through either the purchase of a single-use song licence, or through a revshare deal with the music artists and record labels.
How can your music be included in Creator Music?
Being a LabelWorx distribution customer means you have automatically opted into Creator Music. There are however some eligibility criteria per track detailed below.
- The track must be delivered as an Art Track, as well as be monetised via Content ID.
- The Sound Recording / Asset must not be in an ownership conflict
- Master, publishing and performance rights need to be cleared worldwide.
