Many of our partners have attempted to use TikTok’s ‘Promote’ feature to boost posts featuring their music. However, we do not recommend this approach, as ‘Promote’ does not account for music licensing.
For a smoother experience, we suggest using TikTok Ads Manager to run Spark Ads. This method ensures your content complies with licensing requirements and reaches the right audience.
Setting Up Your TikTok Ads Manager Account
- Create a TikTok Ads Manager account if you don’t already have one.
- Once logged in, start by creating a new campaign and choose an Advertising Objective based on your goals:
- If you want to increase views on your post, select Video Views.
- To drive traffic and encourage users to stream your music, select Traffic.
- To grow your fanbase, select Community Interaction.
Setting Up Your Ad Group and Targeting
Next, you’ll set up your ad group and define your audience.

In the Placements section, select Manual Placement and disable the Global App Bundle and Pangle options unless you have a specific reason to use them.

Under Targeting, choose the location, age group, and interests that best align with your target audience. You can also upload custom audience data here if applicable.
Budget, Schedule, and Optimisation

In the Budget & Schedule section, set your total budget and the duration of the campaign.

Under Bidding & Optimisation, the default settings work well for most campaigns. If you have specific goals, you can adjust these as needed.
Choosing the Post for Your Spark Ad
When you're ready to select the post you want to boost, you have two options:

Use a TikTok account to deliver Spark Ads: Tick this box to log into the relevant TikTok account and choose the post you want to boost.

Post Authorised by Account: If you don’t have access to the account, use this option to authorise the post without needing login details.
In the Ad Creative section, click + TikTok Post and select the post you'd like to promote.
- For Traffic campaigns, select a Call to Action (CTA). For music campaigns, Listen Now is the typical choice.
- Enter the Destination link, such as a Smartlink or a direct link to your track on a DSP (Digital Streaming Platform). If you're sending users to a streaming service, tick the Direct users to deeplink first option and follow the steps provided.
Final Steps
Once everything is set up, click Publish all and wait for your Spark Ad to be reviewed and approved.
