LabelWorx uses a single artist field to allow the input of both single or multiple artists performing on a release. It is important that you format the entries correctly as this information is used by stores when cataloguing music.
How To Format Your Artists
Artist names should be written using title casing, meaning the first letter of each word is capitalised and the rest are lowercase.
Correct Examples:
Paul VanDyk
Deadmau5
Above & Beyond
Kenneth Thomas & Mike Skye
Incorrect Examples:
Paul van dyk
DEADMAU5
above & beyond
Kenneth thomas & Mike skye
You must specify an artist for the whole release, an individual artist for each of the tracks and if
required a separate remix artist.
If your release contains multiple (4 or more) artists then the artist at release level should be specified as Various Artists.
If there are 3 or fewer primary artists at track level they should be specified at release level. Please see the below example.
Release Artist: Chris Chambers & Matt Abbott
Track 1 Artist: Chris Chambers
Track 2 Artist: Matt Abbott
Featured Artists
Featured artists should be written as part of the original artist name. During encoding, we will then
automatically move the featured artist to the release name if certain stores require releases to be
supplied by that method (i.e. iTunes). To specify a featured artist please add 1 of the following control
identifiers in the artist name:
Featuring
featuring
Feat.
feat.
Ft.
ft.
Artists should not be included in track titles.
Correct Examples:
Kenneth Thomas Featuring Colleen Riley - Ghosts
Kenneth Thomas Feat. Colleen Riley - Ghosts
Kenneth Thomas feat. Colleen Riley - Ghosts
Incorrect Examples :
Kenneth Thomas - Ghosts (feat. Colleen Riley)
Kenneth Thomas - Ghosts (featuring Colleen Riley)
Kenneth Thomas - ft Colleen Riley (Ghosts)
IMPORTANT: iTunes and Spotify do not display releases on Featuring artists' profiles. If you would like the release to appear on the featuring artists' artist page on Spotify & iTunes we would recommend creating the artist as a Primary artist. For example:
Artist A & Artist B
Not:
Artist A feat. Artist B
Multiple Artists Formatting
Please see below for valid ways to format multiple artists together:
Example 1 : Chris Chambers, Matt Abbott
Example 2 : Chris Chambers & Matt Abbott
Example 3 : Chris Chambers feat. Matt Abbott
How Do I Add Artists to the System?
Artists can be created at the point at which a release or track is created so there is no need to create them beforehand.
Complete the following steps:
1. Click Artists > Artist Alias List from the top menu.
2. Click New to create a new artist or click on one in the list to edit.
3. The Artist or Alias name is the performing name of the artist or group. (This is the only required field, all other information is optional)
4. Complete other information as required.
5. Select an artist profile image if required.
6. Click Save in the top right.
7. Your artist record is now saved in our database.
